The Faith of the Canaanite Woman
A Canaanite woman from Tyre and Sidon asks Jesus for help for her demon-possessed daughter. Despite being rejected, she persists, and Jesus commends her great faith and heals her daughter.
Matthäus 15,21-28
21Jesus left that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐκεῖθεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη Τύρου καὶ Σιδῶνος.
22And a Canaanite woman from that area came out and kept crying out, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is cruelly tormented by a demon."
καὶ ἰδοὺ γυνὴ Χαναναία ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων ἐκείνων ἐξελθοῦσα ⸀ἔκραζεν λέγουσα· Ἐλέησόν με, κύριε ⸀υἱὸς Δαυίδ· ἡ θυγάτηρ μου κακῶς δαιμονίζεται.
23But he did not answer her a word. His disciples came and urged him, "Send her away—she keeps crying out after us."
ὁ δὲ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῇ λόγον. καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸀ἠρώτουν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Ἀπόλυσον αὐτήν, ὅτι κράζει ὄπισθεν ἡμῶν.
24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Οὐκ ἀπεστάλην εἰ μὴ εἰς τὰ πρόβατα τὰ ἀπολωλότα οἴκου Ἰσραήλ.
25But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me!"
ἡ δὲ ἐλθοῦσα ⸀προσεκύνει αὐτῷ λέγουσα· Κύριε, βοήθει μοι.
26He answered, "It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."
ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Οὐκ ἔστιν καλὸν λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καὶ βαλεῖν τοῖς κυναρίοις.
27"Yes, Lord," she said, "and yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."
ἡ δὲ εἶπεν· Ναί, κύριε, καὶ γὰρ τὰ κυνάρια ἐσθίει ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν πιπτόντων ἀπὸ τῆς τραπέζης τῶν κυρίων αὐτῶν.
28Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you desire." And from that hour her daughter was healed.
τότε ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῇ· Ὦ γύναι, μεγάλη σου ἡ πίστις· γενηθήτω σοι ὡς θέλεις. καὶ ἰάθη ἡ θυγάτηρ αὐτῆς ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης.
