The Syrophoenician Woman and Her Daughter
A Greek woman of Syrophoenician descent comes to Jesus in the region of Tyre and asks him to drive an unclean spirit out of her little daughter. Jesus replies that the children must be fed first, and that it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the small dogs. The woman answers that even the dogs under the table eat the crumbs from the children's plates. Because of this reply, Jesus heals her daughter, and when the woman returns home, she finds her child well.
Markus 7,24-30
24From there he set out for the region of Tyre. He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but he could not escape notice.
⸂Ἐκεῖθεν δὲ⸃ ἀναστὰς ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὰ ⸀ὅρια ⸀Τύρου. καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς οἰκίαν οὐδένα ἤθελεν γνῶναι, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθη λαθεῖν·
25For at once a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him, and she came and fell at his feet.
⸂ἀλλʼ εὐθὺς ἀκούσασα⸃ γυνὴ περὶ αὐτοῦ, ἧς εἶχεν τὸ θυγάτριον αὐτῆς πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον, ἐλθοῦσα προσέπεσεν πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ·
26The woman was a Greek, Syrophoenician by birth, and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter.
⸂ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἦν⸃ Ἑλληνίς, Συροφοινίκισσα τῷ γένει· καὶ ἠρώτα αὐτὸν ἵνα τὸ δαιμόνιον ἐκβάλῃ ἐκ τῆς θυγατρὸς αὐτῆς.
27He said to her, "Let the children be fed first. It isn't right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."
⸂καὶ ἔλεγεν⸃ αὐτῇ· Ἄφες πρῶτον χορτασθῆναι τὰ τέκνα, οὐ γὰρ ⸂καλόν ἐστιν⸃ λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καὶ ⸂τοῖς κυναρίοις βαλεῖν⸃.
28But she answered him, "Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs."
ἡ δὲ ἀπεκρίθη καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· ⸀Κύριε, ⸀καὶ τὰ κυνάρια ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης ⸀ἐσθίουσιν ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν παιδίων.
29Then he told her, "For saying that, you may go. The demon has left your daughter."
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· Διὰ τοῦτον τὸν λόγον ὕπαγε, ἐξελήλυθεν ⸂ἐκ τῆς θυγατρός σου τὸ δαιμόνιον⸃.
30She went home and found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
καὶ ἀπελθοῦσα εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς εὗρεν τὸ ⸂παιδίον βεβλημένον ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην καὶ τὸ δαιμόνιον ἐξεληλυθός⸃.
