Paul's Greeting and Epaphras' Service in Colossae
Paul and Timothy greet the saints in Colossae with grace and peace from God. They thank God for the church's faith in Christ Jesus and their love for all the saints, motivated by the hope stored up for them in heaven. The gospel is bearing fruit and growing among them just as it does throughout the world. It was Epaphras, Paul's dear fellow servant and a faithful minister of Christ, who first preached the message to the Colossians and has told Paul about their love in the Spirit.
Kolosser 1,1-8
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
Παῦλος ἀπόστολος ⸂Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ⸃ διὰ θελήματος θεοῦ καὶ Τιμόθεος ὁ ἀδελφὸς
2to the saints in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ: grace to you and peace from God our Father.
τοῖς ἐν ⸀Κολοσσαῖς ἁγίοις καὶ πιστοῖς ἀδελφοῖς ἐν Χριστῷ· χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ⸀ἡμῶν.
3We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
Εὐχαριστοῦμεν τῷ ⸀θεῷ πατρὶ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ πάντοτε ⸀περὶ ὑμῶν προσευχόμενοι,
4for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints—
ἀκούσαντες τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ καὶ τὴν ἀγάπην ⸂ἣν ἔχετε⸃ εἰς πάντας τοὺς ἁγίους
5a faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven, the hope you heard of in the word of truth, the gospel
διὰ τὴν ἐλπίδα τὴν ἀποκειμένην ὑμῖν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς, ἣν προηκούσατε ἐν τῷ λόγῳ τῆς ἀληθείας τοῦ εὐαγγελίου
6that has come to you. Just as it is bearing fruit and growing in all the world, so it has been among you from the day you heard it and truly understood the grace of God.
τοῦ παρόντος εἰς ὑμᾶς, καθὼς καὶ ἐν παντὶ τῷ ⸀κόσμῳ ἐστὶν καρποφορούμενον καὶ αὐξανόμενον καθὼς καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν, ἀφʼ ἧς ἡμέρας ἠκούσατε καὶ ἐπέγνωτε τὴν χάριν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ·
7You learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf,
⸀καθὼς ἐμάθετε ἀπὸ Ἐπαφρᾶ τοῦ ἀγαπητοῦ συνδούλου ἡμῶν, ὅς ἐστιν πιστὸς ὑπὲρ ⸀ἡμῶν διάκονος τοῦ Χριστοῦ,
8and who has told us of your love in the Spirit.
ὁ καὶ δηλώσας ἡμῖν τὴν ὑμῶν ἀγάπην ἐν πνεύματι.
