Exhortation concerning work and conduct with the disorderly

Paul exhorts the church in Thessalonica to stay away from those who live disorderly lives and refuse to work. He reminds them of his own example: he and his coworkers worked night and day so as not to be a burden, and gave the rule that 'the one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.' The disorderly should be admonished but not regarded as enemies, rather as brothers.

2. Thessalonicher 3,6-15

6Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from every brother who lives an undisciplined life and not according to the tradition they received from us.
7For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: we were not idle when we were with you,
8nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it. Instead, we worked night and day, laboring and struggling, so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
9Not that we lack the right to such support, but we wanted to give you an example to imitate.
10For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: if anyone is unwilling to work, he should not eat.
11We hear that some among you are living undisciplined lives, doing no work at all but meddling in the work of others.
12Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and eat their own bread.
13As for you, brothers, do not grow weary of doing good.
14If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of him. Have nothing to do with him, so that he may be ashamed.
15Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.
