Paul in Corinth
Paulus comes to Corinth and stays with the tentmakers Aquila and Priscilla, who had recently come from Italy. He speaks every Sabbath in the synagogue, and when Silas and Timothy arrive, he testifies to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah. After opposition, he turns to the Gentiles. The synagogue ruler Crispus and many Corinthians come to faith and are baptized. After a vision from the Lord, Paul remains for a year and a half. The Jews bring him before the proconsul Gallio, who dismisses the case, and Sosthenes is beaten in front of the judge's seat.

1After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.
⸀Μετὰ ταῦτα ⸀χωρισθεὶς ἐκ τῶν Ἀθηνῶν ἦλθεν εἰς Κόρινθον.
2There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them,
καὶ εὑρών τινα Ἰουδαῖον ὀνόματι Ἀκύλαν, Ποντικὸν τῷ γένει, προσφάτως ἐληλυθότα ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰταλίας καὶ Πρίσκιλλαν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸ ⸀διατεταχέναι Κλαύδιον χωρίζεσθαι πάντας τοὺς Ἰουδαίους ⸀ἀπὸ τῆς Ῥώμης, προσῆλθεν αὐτοῖς,
3and since they shared the same trade, he stayed and worked with them; they were tentmakers.
καὶ διὰ τὸ ὁμότεχνον εἶναι ἔμενεν παρʼ αὐτοῖς καὶ ⸀ἠργάζετο, ἦσαν γὰρ σκηνοποιοὶ ⸂τῇ τέχνῃ⸃.
4Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade both Jews and Greeks.
διελέγετο δὲ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ κατὰ πᾶν σάββατον, ἔπειθέν τε Ἰουδαίους καὶ Ἕλληνας.
5When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself entirely to the word, testifying to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus.
Ὡς δὲ κατῆλθον ἀπὸ τῆς Μακεδονίας ὅ τε Σιλᾶς καὶ ὁ Τιμόθεος, συνείχετο τῷ ⸀λόγῳ ὁ Παῦλος, διαμαρτυρόμενος τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις ⸀εἶναι τὸν χριστὸν Ἰησοῦν.
6But when they opposed him and hurled abuse at him, he shook out his clothes and said to them, "Your blood is on your own heads. I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."
ἀντιτασσομένων δὲ αὐτῶν καὶ βλασφημούντων ἐκτιναξάμενος τὰ ἱμάτια εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Τὸ αἷμα ὑμῶν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν ὑμῶν· καθαρὸς ἐγώ· ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν εἰς τὰ ἔθνη πορεύσομαι.
7So he left there and went into the house of a man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
καὶ μεταβὰς ἐκεῖθεν ⸀εἰσῆλθεν εἰς οἰκίαν τινὸς ὀνόματι ⸀Τιτίου Ἰούστου σεβομένου τὸν θεόν, οὗ ἡ οἰκία ἦν συνομοροῦσα τῇ συναγωγῇ.
8Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, came to believe in the Lord together with his whole household, and many of the Corinthians who heard Paul believed and were baptized.
Κρίσπος δὲ ὁ ἀρχισυνάγωγος ἐπίστευσεν τῷ κυρίῳ σὺν ὅλῳ τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ, καὶ πολλοὶ τῶν Κορινθίων ἀκούοντες ἐπίστευον καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο.
9One night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, "Do not be afraid. Keep on speaking; do not be silent,
εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος ⸂ἐν νυκτὶ διʼ ὁράματος⸃ τῷ Παύλῳ· Μὴ φοβοῦ, ἀλλὰ λάλει καὶ μὴ σιωπήσῃς,
10for I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you, because I have many people in this city."
διότι ἐγώ εἰμι μετὰ σοῦ καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπιθήσεταί σοι τοῦ κακῶσαί σε, διότι λαός ἐστί μοι πολὺς ἐν τῇ πόλει ταύτῃ.
11So he settled there for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.
ἐκάθισεν ⸀δὲ ἐνιαυτὸν καὶ μῆνας ἓξ διδάσκων ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ.
12While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews joined together in an attack on Paul and brought him before the judgment seat.
Γαλλίωνος δὲ ⸂ἀνθυπάτου ὄντος⸃ τῆς Ἀχαΐας κατεπέστησαν ⸂ὁμοθυμαδὸν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι⸃ τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ βῆμα,
13"This man," they said, "is persuading people to worship God in ways contrary to the law."
λέγοντες ὅτι Παρὰ τὸν νόμον ⸂ἀναπείθει οὗτος⸃ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους σέβεσθαι τὸν θεόν.
14Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews, "If this were a matter of some crime or serious wrongdoing, you Jews, I would have good reason to hear you out.
μέλλοντος δὲ τοῦ Παύλου ἀνοίγειν τὸ στόμα εἶπεν ὁ Γαλλίων πρὸς τοὺς Ἰουδαίους· Εἰ ⸀μὲν ἦν ἀδίκημά τι ἢ ῥᾳδιούργημα πονηρόν, ὦ Ἰουδαῖοι, κατὰ λόγον ἂν ἀνεσχόμην ὑμῶν·
15But since it is a dispute about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of such things."
εἰ δὲ ⸀ζητήματά ἐστιν περὶ λόγου καὶ ὀνομάτων καὶ νόμου τοῦ καθʼ ὑμᾶς, ὄψεσθε αὐτοί· ⸀κριτὴς ἐγὼ τούτων οὐ βούλομαι εἶναι.
16And he drove them away from the judgment seat.
καὶ ἀπήλασεν αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ βήματος.
17Then they all seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the judgment seat. But none of this concerned Gallio in the least.
ἐπιλαβόμενοι δὲ ⸀πάντες Σωσθένην τὸν ἀρχισυνάγωγον ἔτυπτον ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ βήματος· καὶ οὐδὲν τούτων τῷ Γαλλίωνι ⸀ἔμελεν.
