Paulus
Paul on Sexual Immorality and Church Discipline in Corinth
Paulus reacts strongly to reports that a man in the church at Corinth is living with his father's wife, an immorality not even found among pagans. He instructs the church to remove the sinner from their midst and hand him over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Lord's day. Paulus uses the image of leaven that permeates the whole dough to urge the church toward purity, reminding them that Christ is their Passover lamb. He clarifies that they should not associate with anyone called a brother who lives in immorality, greed, idolatry, slander, drunkenness, or robbery—not even to eat with such people. Those outside the church God will judge.
1. Korinther 5,1-13
1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not found even among the pagans: a man is living with his father's wife.
2And you are arrogant! Should you not rather have mourned, so that the man who did this would be removed from among you?
καὶ ὑμεῖς πεφυσιωμένοι ἐστέ, καὶ οὐχὶ μᾶλλον ἐπενθήσατε, ἵνα ⸀ἀρθῇ ἐκ μέσου ὑμῶν ὁ τὸ ἔργον τοῦτο ⸀ποιήσας;
3For though I am absent in body, I am present in spirit, and I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, as though I were present.
4When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus, and my spirit is with you, along with the power of our Lord Jesus,
5hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
6Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough?
Οὐ καλὸν τὸ καύχημα ὑμῶν. οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι μικρὰ ζύμη ὅλον τὸ φύραμα ζυμοῖ;
7Clean out the old yeast, so that you may be a new batch, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
8So let us keep the feast, not with the old yeast, nor with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with the sexually immoral—
10not at all meaning the immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave the world.
11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother and is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a reviler, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a person do not even eat.
12For what business is it of mine to judge those outside? Are you not the ones to judge those inside?
13God will judge those outside. "Remove the wicked man from among you."
