Paul urges forgiveness for the one who was corrected
Paul asks the church in Corinth to forgive and comfort the one who received correction from the majority, so that he is not overwhelmed by sorrow and Satan does not gain an advantage. He confirms his own forgiveness and emphasizes that this is a test of their obedience and love 2 Corinthians 2:5-11.
2. Korinther 2,5-11
5If anyone has caused pain, he has not pained me alone but, in some measure—I do not want to overstate it—all of you.
Εἰ δέ τις λελύπηκεν, οὐκ ἐμὲ λελύπηκεν, ἀλλὰ ἀπὸ μέρους ἵνα μὴ ἐπιβαρῶ πάντας ὑμᾶς.
6The punishment imposed on such a man by the majority is enough.
ἱκανὸν τῷ τοιούτῳ ἡ ἐπιτιμία αὕτη ἡ ὑπὸ τῶν πλειόνων,
7Now, instead, you should forgive and comfort him, so that he is not overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
ὥστε τοὐναντίον ⸀μᾶλλον ὑμᾶς χαρίσασθαι καὶ παρακαλέσαι, μή πως τῇ περισσοτέρᾳ λύπῃ καταποθῇ ὁ τοιοῦτος.
8So I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
διὸ παρακαλῶ ὑμᾶς κυρῶσαι εἰς αὐτὸν ἀγάπην·
9This is also why I wrote: to test you and see whether you are obedient in everything.
εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ καὶ ἔγραψα ἵνα γνῶ τὴν δοκιμὴν ὑμῶν, εἰ εἰς πάντα ὑπήκοοί ἐστε.
10Anyone you forgive, I forgive as well. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven for your sake in the presence of Christ,
ᾧ δέ τι χαρίζεσθε, κἀγώ· καὶ γὰρ ἐγὼ ⸂ὃ κεχάρισμαι, εἴ τι⸃ κεχάρισμαι, διʼ ὑμᾶς ἐν προσώπῳ Χριστοῦ,
11so that Satan might not outwit us; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
ἵνα μὴ πλεονεκτηθῶμεν ὑπὸ τοῦ Σατανᾶ, οὐ γὰρ αὐτοῦ τὰ νοήματα ἀγνοοῦμεν.
