The Plague Stops After Aaron's Atonement
The day after Korah's rebellion, the whole congregation complained against Moses and Aaron, saying that they had killed the people of the Lord. The glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting, and a plague broke out among the people. Moses told Aaron to take his firepan with fire from the altar and incense, and hurry out to the congregation to make atonement. Aaron ran into the midst of the assembly and stood between the dead and the living, and the plague stopped. Fourteen thousand seven hundred died, besides those who died because of Korah.
4. Mose 17,6-15
6But the next day the whole community of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. "You have killed the LORD's people," they said.
וַיִּלֹּ֜נוּ כָּל־עֲדַ֤ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת עַל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְעַֽל־אַהֲרֹ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר אַתֶּ֥ם הֲמִתֶּ֖ם אֶת־עַ֥ם יְהוָֽה׃
7And as the assembly gathered against Moses and Aaron, they turned toward the tent of meeting, and there was the cloud covering it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
וַיְהִ֗י בְּהִקָּהֵ֤ל הָֽעֵדָה֙ עַל־מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְעַֽל־אַהֲרֹ֔ן וַיִּפְנוּ֙ אֶל־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְהִנֵּ֥ה כִסָּ֖הוּ הֶעָנָ֑ן וַיֵּרָ֖א כְּב֥וֹד יְהוָֽה׃
8Then Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting.
וַיָּבֹ֤א מֹשֶׁה֙ וְאַהֲרֹ֔ן אֶל־פְּנֵ֖י אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃ פ
9And the LORD said to Moses:
וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃
10"Get away from this assembly, so that I may consume them in an instant." And they fell facedown.
הֵרֹ֗מּוּ מִתּוֹךְ֙ הָעֵדָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את וַאֲכַלֶּ֥ה אֹתָ֖ם כְּרָ֑גַע וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ עַל־פְּנֵיהֶֽם׃
11Moses said to Aaron, "Take your censer, put fire on it from the altar and lay incense on it, then hurry to the assembly and make atonement for them. Wrath has gone out from the LORD; the plague has begun."
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֗ן קַ֣ח אֶת־הַ֠מַּחְתָּה וְתֶן־עָלֶ֨יהָ אֵ֜שׁ מֵעַ֤ל הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ וְשִׂ֣ים קְטֹ֔רֶת וְהוֹלֵ֧ךְ מְהֵרָ֛ה אֶל־הָעֵדָ֖ה וְכַפֵּ֣ר עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם כִּֽי־יָצָ֥א הַקֶּ֛צֶף מִלִּפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה הֵחֵ֥ל הַנָּֽגֶף׃
12Aaron took it, as Moses had said, and ran into the midst of the assembly. The plague had indeed begun among the people, but he put in the incense and made atonement for the people.
וַיִּקַּ֨ח אַהֲרֹ֜ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ דִּבֶּ֣ר מֹשֶׁ֗ה וַיָּ֙רָץ֙ אֶל־תּ֣וֹך הַקָּהָ֔ל וְהִנֵּ֛ה הֵחֵ֥ל הַנֶּ֖גֶף בָּעָ֑ם וַיִּתֵּן֙ אֶֽת־הַקְּטֹ֔רֶת וַיְכַפֵּ֖ר עַל־הָעָֽם׃
13He stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stopped.
וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד בֵּֽין־הַמֵּתִ֖ים וּבֵ֣ין הֽ͏ַחַיִּ֑ים וַתֵּעָצַ֖ר הַמַּגֵּפָֽה׃
14Fourteen thousand seven hundred died in the plague, besides those who had died in the affair of Korah.
וַיִּהְי֗וּ הַמֵּתִים֙ בַּמַּגֵּפָ֔ה אַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָׂ֛ר אֶ֖לֶף וּשְׁבַ֣ע מֵא֑וֹת מִלְּבַ֥ד הַמֵּתִ֖ים עַל־דְּבַר־קֹֽרַח׃
15Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the tent of meeting, and the plague had been stopped.
וַיָּ֤שָׁב אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֶל־פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד וְהַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה נֶעֱצָֽרָה׃ פ
