The Parable of the Vine and Jerusalem's Judgment
The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel with a parable about the vine: wood from a grapevine is useless for making anything, and once it has been burned by fire, it is even more worthless. Thus says the Lord God, He has given the inhabitants of Jerusalem to the fire. Even if they escape from the fire, the fire will still consume them. The Lord turns His face against them and makes the land a desolate waste because they have been unfaithful Ezekiel 15:1-8.
Hesekiel 15,1-8
1The word of the LORD came to me:
וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃
2Son of man, how is the wood of the vine better than any other wood, the branch that grows among the trees of the forest?
בֶּן־אָדָ֕ם מַה־יִּֽהְיֶ֥ה עֵץ־הַגֶּ֖פֶן מִכָּל־עֵ֑ץ הַזְּמוֹרָ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה בַּעֲצֵ֥י הַיָּֽעַר׃
3Is any of its wood taken to make something useful? Does anyone take from it a peg to hang a vessel on?
הֲיֻקַּ֤ח מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ עֵ֔ץ לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת לִמְלָאכָ֑ה אִם־יִקְח֤וּ מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ יָתֵ֔ד לִתְל֥וֹת עָלָ֖יו כָּל־כֶּֽלִי׃
4See—it is given to the fire as fuel. The fire consumes both its ends, and its middle is charred. Is it good for anything then?
הִנֵּ֥ה לָאֵ֖שׁ נִתַּ֣ן לְאָכְלָ֑ה אֵת֩ שְׁנֵ֨י קְצוֹתָ֜יו אָכְלָ֤ה הָאֵשׁ֙ וְתוֹכ֣וֹ נָחָ֔ר הֲיִצְלַ֖ח לִמְלָאכָֽה׃
5When it was whole, nothing could be made of it; how much less, now that the fire has consumed it and it is charred!
הִנֵּה֙ בִּֽהְיוֹת֣וֹ תָמִ֔ים לֹ֥א יֵֽעָשֶׂ֖ה לִמְלָאכָ֑ה אַ֣ף כִּי־אֵ֤שׁ אֲכָלַ֙תְהוּ֙ וַיֵּחָ֔ר וְנַעֲשָׂ֥ה ע֖וֹד לִמְלָאכָֽה׃ ס
6Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire as fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר עֵץ־הַגֶּ֙פֶן֙ בְּעֵ֣ץ הַיַּ֔עַר אֲשֶׁר־נְתַתִּ֥יו לָאֵ֖שׁ לְאָכְלָ֑ה כֵּ֣ן נָתַ֔תִּי אֶת־יֹשְׁבֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃
7I will set my face against them. Though they have come out of the fire, the fire will yet consume them. And you will know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.
וְנָתַתִּ֤י אֶת־פָּנַי֙ בָּהֶ֔ם מֵהָאֵ֣שׁ יָצָ֔אוּ וְהָאֵ֖שׁ תֹּֽאכְלֵ֑ם וִֽידַעְתֶּם֙ כִּֽי־אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֔ה בְּשׂוּמִ֥י אֶת־פָּנַ֖י בָּהֶֽם׃
8I will make the land a desolation, because they have been utterly unfaithful, declares the Lord GOD.
וְנָתַתִּ֥י אֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ שְׁמָמָ֑ה יַ֚עַן מָ֣עֲלוּ מַ֔עַל נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ פ
