Azaziah

Asaiah was a Levite who served under King Hezekiah of Judah at the end of the 700s BC. He was appointed as one of the overseers responsible for managing the people's voluntary offerings, tithes, and holy contributions in the temple in Jerusalem. The appointment took place as part of Hezekiah's extensive religious reform, during which temple service was restored and thoroughly reorganized after a period of decline. Asaiah served under the leadership of Conaniah and his brother Shimei, and was one of ten named overseers who ensured fair collection and distribution of gifts to priests and Levites. His service testifies to the central role the Levites played in the administration of the temple, and to Hezekiah's desire to reestablish a reliable and orderly management of the sanctuary.
