When Bartholomew heard that it was Jesus from Nazareth passing by, he began to cry out loudly: "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" His use of the title "Son of David" shows his faith in Jesus as the Messiah.
47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" griech καὶ ἀκούσας ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ὁ ⸀Ναζαρηνός ἐστιν ἤρξατο κράζειν καὶ λέγειν· ⸀Υἱὲ Δαυὶδ Ἰησοῦ, ἐλέησόν με.
38 So he called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" griech καὶ ἐβόησεν λέγων· Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.
Many tried to get Bartholomew to be quiet, but he only cried out even louder and refused to give up. His perseverance in faith is an example for all believers.
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" griech καὶ ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ πολλοὶ ἵνα σιωπήσῃ· ὁ δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν· Υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.
39 Those in front rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" griech καὶ οἱ προάγοντες ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ ἵνα ⸀σιγήσῃ· αὐτὸς δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν· Υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.
Jesus stopped and asked that the blind man be brought to him. Bartholomew threw off his cloak and ran to Jesus. Jesus asked him: "What do you want me to do for you?"
49 Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying, "Take heart! Get up; he is calling you." griech καὶ στὰς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· ⸂Φωνήσατε αὐτόν⸃. καὶ φωνοῦσι τὸν τυφλὸν λέγοντες αὐτῷ· Θάρσει, ⸀ἔγειρε, φωνεῖ σε.
50 Throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus. griech ὁ δὲ ἀποβαλὼν τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ ⸀ἀναπηδήσας ἦλθεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν.
51 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbouni, I want to see again." griech καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ⸂αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν⸃· Τί ⸂σοι θέλεις ποιήσω⸃; ὁ δὲ τυφλὸς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ραββουνι, ἵνα ἀναβλέψω.
Bartholomew answered that he would be able to see again. Jesus said to him: "Go your way, your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
52 "Go," Jesus said to him, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the road. griech ⸂καὶ ὁ⸃ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ὕπαγε, ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε. καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἀνέβλεψεν, καὶ ἠκολούθει ⸀αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ.
42 Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you." griech καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἀνάβλεψον· ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε.
43 Immediately he could see, and he followed him, glorifying God. And all the people who saw it gave praise to God. griech καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀνέβλεψεν, καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ δοξάζων τὸν θεόν. καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἰδὼν ἔδωκεν αἶνον τῷ θεῷ.
The healing of the blind man at Jericho is also recorded in Matthew, where two blind men are mentioned, and in Luke, which emphasizes the people's praise of God after the miracle.
29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. griech Καὶ ἐκπορευομένων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ Ἰεριχὼ ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ ὄχλος πολύς.
30 And there were two blind men sitting by the road, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" griech καὶ ἰδοὺ δύο τυφλοὶ καθήμενοι παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν, ἀκούσαντες ὅτι Ἰησοῦς παράγει, ἔκραξαν λέγοντες· ⸂Κύριε, ἐλέησον ἡμᾶς⸃, ⸀υἱὸς Δαυίδ.

32 Jesus stopped, called them over, and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" griech καὶ στὰς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐφώνησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ εἶπεν· Τί θέλετε ποιήσω ὑμῖν;
33 "Lord," they said, "we want our eyes to be opened." griech λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Κύριε, ἵνα ⸂ἀνοιγῶσιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἡμῶν⸃.
34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed him. griech σπλαγχνισθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἥψατο τῶν ⸀ὀμμάτων αὐτῶν, καὶ εὐθέως ⸀ἀνέβλεψαν καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.
35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. griech Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἐγγίζειν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἰεριχὼ τυφλός τις ἐκάθητο παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ⸀ἐπαιτῶν.
36 When he heard a crowd passing by, he kept asking what this meant. griech ἀκούσας δὲ ὄχλου διαπορευομένου ἐπυνθάνετο ⸀τί εἴη τοῦτο·
37 They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." griech ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτῷ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος παρέρχεται.
38 So he called out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" griech καὶ ἐβόησεν λέγων· Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.
