Greeting to Timothy

Eubulus sends his greetings to Timothy through Paul's second letter, showing his connection to the Christian community in Rome.

21Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends you greetings, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.

Part of the congregation in Rome

Eubulus is mentioned together with Pudens, Linus, and Claudia as believing brothers and sisters in Rome who supported Paul during his imprisonment.

21Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends you greetings, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.
22The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all.

Paul's final letter

The context for Eubulus' mention is Paul's closing words in his last known letter, written during his second imprisonment in Rome as he awaited execution.

6As for me, I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
8From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but to all who have loved his appearing.
21Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends you greetings, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.

Faithful support in difficult times

While many had abandoned Paul, Eubulus was among the believers who still kept in touch with the apostle and showed care for him in his final days.

10For Demas, in love with this present age, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
11Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.
16At my first defense no one stood by me; everyone abandoned me. May it not be held against them.
21Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends you greetings, and so do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.
