Mentioned as tetrarch in Luke

Philip is mentioned as tetrarch over Iturea and Trachonitis when John the Baptist began his ministry, providing a historical timeframe for the events of the gospel.

1In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

Caesarea Philippi - Peter's confession

In the area around Caesarea Philippi, the city that Philip founded and named after himself and Emperor Augustus, Jesus asked his disciples who people said he was, and Peter confessed him as the Messiah.

13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"
Ἐλθὼν δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὰ μέρη Καισαρείας τῆς Φιλίππου ἠρώτα τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγων· ⸀Τίνα λέγουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι εἶναι τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;
14They said, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15"But you," he said to them, "who do you say I am?"
λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι;
16Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus in Philip's territory

Jesus traveled to the villages near Caesarea Philippi, which were located in the tetrarchy of Herod Philip, where he taught his disciples.

27Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?"
Καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὰς κώμας Καισαρείας τῆς Φιλίππου· καὶ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐπηρώτα τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγων αὐτοῖς· Τίνα με λέγουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι εἶναι;
28They answered, "John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets."
29"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ."
