Iru was the eldest son of Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and is mentioned in the genealogy of the tribe of Judah in 1 Chronicles. He is part of the significant Calebite clan that played an important role during the conquest of Canaan. Although little is known about his personal life, his place in the genealogical record is important for understanding the history of the tribe of Judah.
14So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as an inheritance to this day, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.
Caleb's faithfulness to the Lord secured an inheritance for his descendants, including Iru, as he was one of the two spies who trusted in God's promise.
24But my servant Caleb—because a different spirit is in him and he has followed me wholeheartedly—him I will bring into the land he entered, and his descendants will inherit it.
13To Caleb son of Jephunneh, Joshua gave a portion among the people of Judah, as the LORD had commanded him: Kiriath Arba, that is, Hebron—Arba being the ancestor of Anak.
