Jehosheba was the daughter of King Joram of Judah and sister to King Ahaziah. She saved her nephew Joash from being killed by Queen Athaliah when she seized power, hiding him in the temple for six years. Her courageous act preserved David's royal line.
When Athaliah saw that her son Ahaziah was dead, she decided to wipe out the entire royal family. Jehosheba took Joash, Ahaziah's son, and hid him along with his nurse in the bedroom.
2But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and sister of Ahaziah, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being put to death. She hid him and his nurse in a bedroom, out of Athaliah's sight, and so he was not killed.
Jehosheba kept Joash hidden in the house of the Lord for six years while Athaliah ruled over the land. She was married to the high priest Jehoiada, which gave her access to the temple.
Through her courageous act, Jehosheba ensured that David's lineage continued on the throne of Judah, in accordance with God's promise to David of an eternal dynasty.
11But Jehoshabeath, the king's daughter, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, daughter of King Jehoram and wife of Jehoiada the priest—she was Ahaziah's sister—hid him from Athaliah, and Athaliah did not put him to death.
