Crescens (also known as Crescens) was one of the apostle Paul's co-workers in the early church. He is mentioned in 2 Timothy 4:10 as someone who left Paul and went to Galatia. Although little is known about him, he is regarded as one of the early Christian missionaries who contributed to the spread of the gospel.

Co-worker with Paul

Crescens was part of Paul's circle of co-workers during his ministry and missionary work in the early church.

10For Demas, in love with this present age, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

Departure to Galatia

Crescens left Paul and traveled to Galatia (or Gaul according to some manuscripts) to preach the gospel there. This is mentioned in connection with Paul's second imprisonment in Rome.

10For Demas, in love with this present age, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

Paul's loneliness in prison

Crescens' departure contributed to Paul being almost alone during his second imprisonment in Rome, with only Luke remaining with him. Unlike Demas, who left Paul out of love for the world, it seems that Crescens departed for missionary reasons.

10For Demas, in love with this present age, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
11Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.

Part of Paul's final greetings

Crescens is mentioned in the closing section of Paul's last known letter, 2 Timothy, which is regarded as Paul's testamentary writing to his spiritual son Timothy.

9Do your best to come to me soon.
