Nadab walks in his father's sinful ways

Nadab did what was evil in the Lord's sight and walked in the way of his father, in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit through idolatry.

26He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, walking in the way of his father and in the sin he had led Israel to commit.

The siege of Gibbethon

Nadab and all Israel besieged the Philistine city of Gibbethon. It was during this siege that the conspiracy against him took place.

27Baasha son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him and struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it.

Baasha's Conspiracy and the Murder of Nadab

Baasha, son of Ahijah from the tribe of Issachar, conspired against Nadab and struck him down at Gibbethon. Baasha then seized the kingdom in his place.

27Baasha son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him and struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it.
28Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah and reigned in his place.

The Destruction of Jeroboam's House

When Baasha became king, he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He left not a single soul alive, in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken through the prophet Ahijah.

29As soon as he was king, he struck down the entire house of Jeroboam. He left Jeroboam no one that breathed, until he had destroyed them all, according to the word the LORD had spoken through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite—
30because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had led Israel to commit, and because he provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.

Fulfillment of Ahijah's Prophecy

The destruction of Jeroboam's lineage by Baasha was the fulfillment of the prophecy that Ahijah from Shiloh had pronounced against Jeroboam because of his sins and idolatry.

10Therefore I am bringing disaster on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel, slave or free. I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as a man burns dung, until it is gone.
11Those of Jeroboam's house who die in the city the dogs will eat, and those who die in the open country the birds of the sky will eat—for the LORD has spoken.
14Moreover, the LORD will raise up for himself a king over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam—this very day, yes, even now.
