Nebo-Sarsekim was one of the Babylonian officials who participated in the siege and conquest of Jerusalem in 586 BC during the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar. He is mentioned in Jeremiah 39:3 among the Babylonian officers who took their positions at the Middle Gate after the city wall was breached. His existence is remarkably confirmed by a Babylonian cuneiform tablet in the British Museum, which strengthens the historical reliability of the biblical text.

Nebuchadnezzar's army besieged Jerusalem, and Nebo-Sarsekim was among the Babylonian officers who took part in this long siege.

When Zedekiah saw the Babylonian officers at the gate, he fled during the night but was captured on the plains of Jericho and brought to Nebuchadnezzar.

After the conquest, the walls of Jerusalem were torn down and the city burned, just as the prophet Jeremiah had predicted as God's judgment against Judah.
9Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried off to Babylon the rest of the people left in the city, along with those who had deserted to him, and the rest of the people who remained.
