Nebushazban was a high-ranking Babylonian official who served under King Nebuchadnezzar II. He is mentioned in connection with the conquest of Jerusalem in 586 BC, where he was among the Babylonian officers tasked with caring for the prophet Jeremiah. Nebushazban was among the Babylonian officers who entered Jerusalem after a long siege. The Babylonian forces broke through the city walls and took position at the Middle Gate.
3Then all the officers of the king of Babylon came in and took their seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim the chief officer, Nergal-sharezer the chief adviser, and all the rest of the officers of the king of Babylon.
Nebuchadnezzar gave orders to Nebuzaradan, the commander of the guard, to care for the prophet Jeremiah. Nebushazban was among the officers involved in carrying out this order.
13So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, Nebushazban the chief officer, Nergal-sharezer the chief adviser, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon sent word,
Nebushazban was among those who sent word to bring Jeremiah from the guard court and handed him over to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, so that he could be taken home to live among the people.
13So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, Nebushazban the chief officer, Nergal-sharezer the chief adviser, and all the chief officers of the king of Babylon sent word,
14and they had Jeremiah brought from the courtyard of the guard and handed him over to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to take him home. So he lived among the people.
After the city walls were breached, Nebuzaradan and the other Babylonian officers sat down at the Middle Gate as a sign of their control over the city.
