Unlike others who abandoned Paul, Onesiphorus was not ashamed of the apostle's imprisonment but showed him faithful care.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. griech δῴη ἔλεος ὁ κύριος τῷ Ὀνησιφόρου οἴκῳ, ὅτι πολλάκις με ἀνέψυξεν, καὶ τὴν ἅλυσίν μου οὐκ ἐπαισχύνθη·
Paul prayed that the Lord would show mercy to Onesiphorus' household as a reward for his faithful service.

Onesiphorus is mentioned in contrast to Phygelus and Hermogenes and others in Asia who turned away from Paul, thus appearing as a model of faithful friendship.
