Potiphar was an Egyptian court official and captain of Pharaoh's guard who bought Joseph as a slave. He was a wealthy and influential man in Egypt, and under his roof Joseph demonstrated his leadership abilities. Potiphar's wife tried to seduce Joseph, and when he rejected her, she falsely accused him of attempted assault.
1Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him there.
Potiphar saw that the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in everything he did. Therefore, he put Joseph in charge of his entire household and all that he owned.
4So Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his household and entrusted everything he owned to his care.
5From the time he put Joseph in charge of his house and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian's household because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD rested on everything he had, both in the house and in the field.
Because of Joseph, the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house, and the Lord's blessing was upon everything Potiphar owned, both in the house and in the fields.
5From the time he put Joseph in charge of his house and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian's household because of Joseph. The blessing of the LORD rested on everything he had, both in the house and in the field.
