Daughter Given to Joseph

Pharaoh gave Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to Joseph as a wife when Joseph was elevated to a high position in Egypt.

45Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-paneah and gave him Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, as his wife. And Joseph went out through the land of Egypt.

Grandfather of Manasseh and Ephraim

Through Asenath, Potiphera became the grandfather of Joseph's two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, who were born before the famine came.

50Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.

51Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, saying, "God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house."
52The second he named Ephraim, saying, "God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction."

Mentioned in Joseph's lineage

Potiphera is mentioned as Asenath's father in connection with Joseph having sons in Egypt, which confirms the Egyptian connection in Joseph's family.

20In the land of Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.
