The selection of the seven deacons
Prochorus was chosen along with six other men to serve the church in Jerusalem when discontent arose among Greek-speaking Jews regarding the distribution of food to widows.
1In those days, as the number of disciples kept growing, the Greek-speaking Jews began to complain against the Hebrews that their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.
2So the Twelve called the whole company of disciples together and said, "It is not right for us to abandon the word of God in order to wait on tables.
3Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are well respected and full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and we will put them in charge of this task,
4while we devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."
5This proposal pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, along with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a convert from Antioch.
6They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
Laying on of hands by the apostles
After the church chose the seven men, they were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them and laid hands on them, thus ordaining them for service.

The Result of Deacon Service
After the seven were appointed to their service, the word of God continued to spread, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem grew greatly.
7And the word of God kept spreading, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem grew rapidly, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.
