Satan

The Accuser and God's Adversary

Die Schöpfung?

Satan is the name of the fallen adversary who opposes God and humanity. He appears as an accuser against Job, tempts Jesus in the wilderness, and is referred to as the devil, the ancient serpent. Through Christ's victory on the cross, his power has been broken, and his final defeat has been proclaimed.

Tempting Jesus in the Wilderness

Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness after His forty days of fasting, but was rebuffed with God's word.

1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
10Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written: 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him alone shall you serve.'"

Accusing Job

Satan appeared among the sons of God and was permitted to test the righteous Job.

6One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.
7The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming the earth and walking back and forth on it."
