Known for Good Deeds

Tabitha was full of good deeds and acts of mercy. She made clothing for widows and helped those in need in Joppa.

36In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha, which translated means Dorcas. She was always doing good works and giving to those in need.
39So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room, and all the widows stood around him weeping and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them.

Illness and Death

Tabitha fell ill and died. The disciples washed her body and laid her in an upper room.

37About that time she fell sick and died. They washed her body and laid her in an upstairs room.

Peter Is Summoned

The disciples in Joppa heard that Peter was nearby in Lydda, so they sent two men to bring him quickly.

38Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him with the plea, "Please come to us at once!"

Widows' Testimony

When Peter arrived, the widows showed him tearfully all the tunics and cloaks that Dorcas had made while she was still alive.

39So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room, and all the widows stood around him weeping and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was with them.

Raised from the dead

Peter told everyone to leave. He knelt down and prayed, then said to her, 'Tabitha, get up!' She opened her eyes, saw Peter, and sat up.

40Peter sent them all out of the room, knelt down, and prayed. Then he turned to the body and said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.
41He gave her his hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the saints and the widows and presented her to them alive.

Many come to faith

News of this miracle spread throughout Joppa, and many came to believe in the Lord.

42This became known all over Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
