God's double restoration and overflowing blessing, as in Job's restoration
The number 14000 appears in Job 42:12, where the Lord blesses Job's latter days more than his beginning: He received fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand female donkeys. Before his trials, Job owned 7000 sheep (Job 1:3), and these 14000 sheep thus represent an exact doubling – an expression of God's complete restoration and overflowing blessing. The principle of double restoration has parallels in prophetic literature, where Isaiah 40:2 speaks of Jerusalem having received double for all her sins. The number 14000 therefore carries within it a theology that God's grace surpasses suffering, and that the restoration is richer than what was lost. The basic component 14 also has independent symbolic value in biblical tradition. The number 14 plays a structural role in Matthew 1:17, where Jesus' lineage is divided into three groups of 14 generations. The numerical value (gematria) of the name David (דוד) is 4+6+4 = 14, linking the Messianic lineage to the name David. Job 1:3 states that Job originally had 7,000 sheep. That God restored double (14,000) follows a legal principle known from Exodus 22:3–4 regarding double restitution in cases of theft, which in rabbinic interpretation suggests that Satan effectively stole from Job. The closest related large number with strong biblical symbolism is 144,000 (Rev 7:4; 14:1), representing the chosen and sealed. While 144,000 is based on 12×12×1,000, 14,000 is based on 14×1,000 and has a different symbolic structure.*
