The Letter to the Church in Ephesus
Jesus' greeting and warning to the church in Ephesus, where he commends their perseverance but criticizes them for abandoning their first love, with a promise of the tree of life to the one who overcomes.
Apocalipsis 2,1-7
1To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands:
Τῷ ἀγγέλῳ ⸀τῆς ἐν Ἐφέσῳ ἐκκλησίας γράψον· Τάδε λέγει ὁ κρατῶν τοὺς ἑπτὰ ἀστέρας ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ, ὁ περιπατῶν ἐν μέσῳ τῶν ἑπτὰ λυχνιῶν τῶν χρυσῶν·
2I know your works, your labor and your endurance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and have found them false.
Οἶδα τὰ ἔργα σου, καὶ τὸν ⸀κόπον καὶ τὴν ὑπομονήν σου, καὶ ὅτι οὐ δύνῃ βαστάσαι κακούς, καὶ ἐπείρασας τοὺς λέγοντας ἑαυτοὺς ⸀ἀποστόλους, καὶ οὐκ εἰσίν, καὶ εὗρες αὐτοὺς ψευδεῖς·
3You have endured; you have borne up for the sake of my name and have not grown weary.
καὶ ὑπομονὴν ἔχεις, καὶ ἐβάστασας διὰ τὸ ὄνομά μου, καὶ ⸂οὐ κεκοπίακες⸃.
4But I have this against you: you have abandoned the love you had at first.
ἀλλὰ ἔχω κατὰ σοῦ ὅτι τὴν ἀγάπην σου τὴν πρώτην ἀφῆκες.
5Remember, then, how far you have fallen. Repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
μνημόνευε οὖν πόθεν ⸀πέπτωκας, καὶ μετανόησον καὶ τὰ πρῶτα ἔργα ποίησον· εἰ δὲ μή, ἔρχομαί ⸀σοι, καὶ κινήσω τὴν λυχνίαν σου ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτῆς, ἐὰν μὴ μετανοήσῃς.
6Yet this you have in your favor: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
ἀλλὰ τοῦτο ἔχεις ὅτι μισεῖς τὰ ἔργα τῶν Νικολαϊτῶν, ἃ κἀγὼ μισῶ.
7Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which stands in the paradise of God.
ὁ ἔχων οὖς ἀκουσάτω τί τὸ πνεῦμα λέγει ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις. τῷ νικῶντι δώσω αὐτῷ φαγεῖν ἐκ τοῦ ξύλου τῆς ζωῆς, ὅ ἐστιν ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ τοῦ ⸀θεοῦ.
