The Letter to the Church in Laodicea
Jesus' harsh judgment on the lukewarm church in Laodicea, which thinks it is rich but is spiritually wretched, poor, blind, and naked. He advises them to buy gold refined by fire, white clothes, and eye salve, and invites them to a meal: "See, I stand at the door and knock." The one who overcomes will be allowed to sit with him on his throne.
Apocalipsis 3,14-22
14To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.[^a]
[^a]: Or *the origin*, or *the ruler*, of God's creation.
15I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either cold or hot!
16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
17You say, "I am rich; I have prospered and need nothing," and you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich; and white garments to wear, so that the shame of your nakedness may not be exposed; and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.
20Look, I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
21To the one who conquers I will grant to sit with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
22Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
