Los milagros de Jesús

The Fig Tree Withers

On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus was hungry and went over to a fig tree, but found no fruit, only leaves. He said it would never bear fruit again, and the tree withered at once. When the disciples were amazed, Jesus used the event to teach about the power of faith: with faith without doubt, they could both move mountains and receive everything they ask for in prayer.

Mateo 21,18-22

18Early in the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry.
19Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. He said to it, "May no fruit ever come from you again!" And at once the fig tree withered.
20When the disciples saw it, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked.
καὶ ἰδόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ ἐθαύμασαν λέγοντες· Πῶς παραχρῆμα ἐξηράνθη ἡ συκῆ;
21Jesus answered them, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will happen.
22And if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
