Hezekiah's Illness, Humiliation, and Great Wealth
Hezekiah becomes mortally ill and receives a sign from God, but he becomes proud before humbling himself. He gains great wealth but is tested by envoys from Babylon before his death.
2 Crónicas 32,24-33
24In those days Hezekiah fell sick and was near death. He prayed to the LORD, who answered him and gave him a sign.
בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם חָלָ֥ה יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ עַד־לָמ֑וּת וַיִּתְפַּלֵּל֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ וּמוֹפֵ֖ת נָ֥תַן לֽוֹ׃
25But Hezekiah did not respond in keeping with the kindness shown him, for his heart grew proud. So wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
וְלֹא־כִגְמֻ֤ל עָלָיו֙ הֵשִׁ֣יב יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ כִּ֥י גָבַ֖הּ לִבּ֑וֹ וַיְהִ֤י עָלָיו֙ קֶ֔צֶף וְעַל־יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃
26Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the people of Jerusalem with him, and the LORD's wrath did not come upon them during Hezekiah's lifetime.
וַיִּכָּנַ֤ע יְחִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ בְּגֹ֣בַהּ לִבּ֔וֹ ה֖וּא וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם וְלֹא־בָ֤א עֲלֵיהֶם֙ קֶ֣צֶף יְהוָ֔ה בִּימֵ֖י יְחִזְקִיָּֽהוּ׃
27Hezekiah had very great wealth and honor. He made treasuries for his silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuables,
וַיְהִ֧י לִֽיחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ עֹ֥שֶׁר וְכָב֖וֹד הַרְבֵּ֣ה מְאֹ֑ד וְאֹֽצָר֣וֹת עָֽשָׂה־ל֠וֹ לְכֶ֨סֶף וּלְזָהָ֜ב וּלְאֶ֣בֶן יְקָרָ֗ה וְלִבְשָׂמִים֙ וּלְמָ֣גִנִּ֔ים וּלְכֹ֖ל כְּלֵ֥י חֶמְדָּֽה׃
28as well as storehouses for the harvest of grain, new wine, and oil, and stalls for every kind of livestock, and flocks in the pens.
וּמִ֨סְכְּנ֔וֹת לִתְבוּאַ֥ת דָּגָ֖ן וְתִיר֣וֹשׁ וְיִצְהָ֑ר וְאֻֽרָוֺת֙ לְכָל־בְּהֵמָ֣ה וּבְהֵמָ֔ה וַעֲדָרִ֖ים לָאֲוֵרֽוֹת׃
29He built towns for himself and acquired great numbers of sheep and cattle, for God had given him very great possessions.
וְעָרִים֙ עָ֣שָׂה ל֔וֹ וּמִקְנֵה־צֹ֥אן וּבָקָ֖ר לָרֹ֑ב כִּ֤י נָֽתַן־לוֹ֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים רְכ֖וּשׁ רַ֥ב מְאֹֽד׃
30It was this same Hezekiah who blocked the upper outlet of the Gihon spring and channeled the water down to the west side of the City of David. He succeeded in everything he undertook.
וְה֣וּא יְחִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ סָתַם֙ אֶת־מוֹצָ֞א מֵימֵ֤י גִיחוֹן֙ הָֽעֶלְי֔וֹן וַֽיַּישְּׁרֵ֥ם לְמַֽטָּה־מַּעְרָ֖בָה לְעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַיַּצְלַ֥ח יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּכָֽל־מַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃
31And so it was with the envoys of the rulers of Babylon, who were sent to him to inquire about the sign that had occurred in the land: God left him to himself, to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.
וְכֵ֞ן בִּמְלִיצֵ֣י ׀ שָׂרֵ֣י בָּבֶ֗ל הַֽמְשַׁלְּחִ֤ים עָלָיו֙ לִדְרֹ֗שׁ הַמּוֹפֵת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֣ה בָאָ֔רֶץ עֲזָב֖וֹ הֽ͏ָאֱלֹהִ֑ים לְנַ֨סּוֹת֔וֹ לָדַ֖עַת כָּל־בִּלְבָבֽוֹ׃
32The rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his faithful deeds are written in the vision of the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ וַחֲסָדָ֑יו הִנָּ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים בַּחֲז֞וֹן יְשַֽׁעְיָ֤הוּ בֶן־אָמוֹץ֙ הַנָּבִ֔יא עַל־סֵ֥פֶר מַלְכֵי־יְהוּדָ֖ה וְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
33Hezekiah rested with his fathers and was buried on the ascent to the tombs of David's descendants. All Judah and the people of Jerusalem honored him at his death. And his son Manasseh succeeded him as king.
וַיִּשְׁכַּ֨ב יְחִזְקִיָּ֜הוּ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֗יו וַֽיִּקְבְּרֻהוּ֮ בְּֽמַעֲלֵה֮ קִבְרֵ֣י בְנֵי־דָוִיד֒ וְכָבוֹד֙ עָֽשׂוּ־ל֣וֹ בְמוֹת֔וֹ כָּל־יְהוּדָ֖ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ מְנַשֶּׁ֥ה בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ פ
