La vida de Jesús

Demanding Requirements to Follow Jesus

On the way, Jesus meets three men who want to follow him. To the first one who promises to follow him everywhere, Jesus says that the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head. He calls the second himself, but the man wants first to bury his father; Jesus answers that the dead should bury their own dead and sends him out to proclaim the kingdom of God. The third wants first to say farewell to his family, but Jesus says that no one who looks back after putting a hand on the plow is fit for the kingdom of God.

Lucas 9,57-62

57As they were walking along the road, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
59He said to another, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, let me go and bury my father first."
60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead. You go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
61Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to those at my home."
62Jesus said, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."
