The Teaching on Those Who Have Fallen Asleep and the Lord's Return
Paul instructs the Thessalonians about those who have fallen asleep, so that they will not grieve like others who have no hope. At the Lord's return, Jesus himself will descend from heaven with a commanding shout, the voice of an archangel, and God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first; then we who are alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with him. With these words encourage one another.
1 Tesalonicenses 4,13-18
13We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.
14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus.
15This we tell you by the word of the Lord: we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
18So encourage one another with these words.
