Las parábolas de Jesús
Question about Fasting and the Parable of New Wine
When Jesus is asked why his disciples do not fast as the disciples of John and the Pharisees do, he answers that wedding guests cannot fast while the bridegroom is with them. He then tells the parables about a patch from a new garment on an old one, and about new wine that cannot be put into old wineskins.
Lucas 5,33-39
33Then they said to him, "John's disciples fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking."
34Jesus said to them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
ὁ ⸀δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Μὴ δύνασθε τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ νυμφῶνος ἐν ᾧ ὁ νυμφίος μετʼ αὐτῶν ἐστιν ποιῆσαι ⸀νηστεῦσαι;
35But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them; then they will fast in those days."
36He also told them a parable: "No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will tear the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old.
37And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will spill out, and the skins will be ruined.
38No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.
39And no one who has been drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is good.'"
