Peter Heals the Lame Man at the Temple Gate
Peter and John meet a lame man at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. Peter says: "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ – get up and walk!" – and the man is healed.
Hechos 3,1-10
1Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
⸂Πέτρος δὲ⸃ καὶ Ἰωάννης ἀνέβαινον εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν ἐπὶ τὴν ὥραν τῆς προσευχῆς τὴν ἐνάτην,
2A man who had been lame from birth was being carried in. Every day they would set him down at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg for alms from those entering the temple.
καί τις ἀνὴρ χωλὸς ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτοῦ ὑπάρχων ἐβαστάζετο, ὃν ἐτίθουν καθʼ ἡμέραν πρὸς τὴν θύραν τοῦ ἱεροῦ τὴν λεγομένην Ὡραίαν τοῦ αἰτεῖν ἐλεημοσύνην παρὰ τῶν εἰσπορευομένων εἰς τὸ ἱερόν,
3When he saw Peter and John about to go in, he asked them for alms.
ὃς ἰδὼν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην μέλλοντας εἰσιέναι εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν ἠρώτα ἐλεημοσύνην ⸀λαβεῖν.
4Peter looked straight at him, as did John, and said, "Look at us."
ἀτενίσας δὲ Πέτρος εἰς αὐτὸν σὺν τῷ Ἰωάννῃ εἶπεν· Βλέψον εἰς ἡμᾶς.
5So he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them.
ὁ δὲ ἐπεῖχεν αὐτοῖς προσδοκῶν τι παρʼ αὐτῶν λαβεῖν.
6But Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!"
εἶπεν δὲ Πέτρος· Ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον οὐχ ὑπάρχει μοι, ὃ δὲ ἔχω τοῦτό σοι δίδωμι· ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου ⸀περιπάτει.
7Then he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and at once his feet and ankles were made strong.
καὶ πιάσας αὐτὸν τῆς δεξιᾶς χειρὸς ἤγειρεν ⸀αὐτόν· παραχρῆμα δὲ ἐστερεώθησαν ⸂αἱ βάσεις αὐτοῦ⸃ καὶ τὰ ⸀σφυδρά,
8He sprang up, stood, and began to walk, and he went with them into the temple, walking and leaping and praising God.
καὶ ἐξαλλόμενος ἔστη καὶ περιεπάτει, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν σὺν αὐτοῖς εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν περιπατῶν καὶ ἁλλόμενος καὶ αἰνῶν τὸν θεόν.
9All the people saw him walking and praising God,
καὶ εἶδεν ⸂πᾶς ὁ λαὸς αὐτὸν⸃ περιπατοῦντα καὶ αἰνοῦντα τὸν θεόν,
10and they recognized him as the man who used to sit begging at the temple's Beautiful Gate. They were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
ἐπεγίνωσκον ⸀δὲ αὐτὸν ὅτι ⸀οὗτος ἦν ὁ πρὸς τὴν ἐλεημοσύνην καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῇ Ὡραίᾳ Πύλῃ τοῦ ἱεροῦ, καὶ ἐπλήσθησαν θάμβους καὶ ἐκστάσεως ἐπὶ τῷ συμβεβηκότι αὐτῷ.
