Priests Who Despise God's Name
God accuses the priests of despising His name by offering unclean food and unworthy sacrificial animals—blind, lame, and sick ones—at the altar. He challenges them to give such gifts to the governor and asks if he would accept them. Malachi 1:6-9
Malaquías 1,6-9
6A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the fear due me? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. But you ask, "How have we despised your name?"
בֵּ֛ן יְכַבֵּ֥ד אָ֖ב וְעֶ֣בֶד אֲדֹנָ֑יו וְאִם־אָ֣ב אָ֣נִי אַיֵּ֣ה כְבוֹדִ֡י וְאִם־אֲדוֹנִ֣ים אָנִי֩ אַיֵּ֨ה מוֹרָאִ֜י אָמַ֣ר ׀ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת לָכֶם֙ הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ בּוֹזֵ֣י שְׁמִ֔י וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם בַּמֶּ֥ה בָזִ֖ינוּ אֶת־שְׁמֶֽךָ׃
7By placing defiled food on my altar. And you ask, "How have we defiled you?" By saying that the LORD's table is contemptible.
מַגִּישִׁ֤ים עַֽל־מִזְבְּחִי֙ לֶ֣חֶם מְגֹאָ֔ל וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם בַּמֶּ֣ה גֵֽאַלְנ֑וּךָ בֶּאֱמָרְכֶ֕ם שֻׁלְחַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה נִבְזֶ֥ה הֽוּא׃
8When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you offer the lame and the diseased, is that not wrong? Try presenting them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he receive you favorably? says the LORD of hosts.
וְכִֽי־תַגִּשׁ֨וּן עִוֵּ֤ר לִזְבֹּ֙חַ֙ אֵ֣ין רָ֔ע וְכִ֥י תַגִּ֛ישׁוּ פִּסֵּ֥חַ וְחֹלֶ֖ה אֵ֣ין רָ֑ע הַקְרִיבֵ֨הוּ נָ֜א לְפֶחָתֶ֗ךָ הֲיִּרְצְךָ֙ א֚וֹ הֲיִשָּׂ֣א פָנֶ֔יךָ אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
9Now then, plead for God's favor, that he may be gracious to us. This is what your own hands have done—will he then show any of you favor? says the LORD of hosts.
וְעַתָּ֛ה חַלּוּ־נָ֥א פְנֵי־אֵ֖ל וִֽיחָנֵ֑נוּ מִיֶּדְכֶם֙ הָ֣יְתָה זֹּ֔את הֲיִשָּׂ֤א מִכֶּם֙ פָּנִ֔ים אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
