Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus
As the time drew near for Jesus to be taken up, he resolutely set his face toward Jerusalem and sent messengers ahead of him. They entered a Samaritan village to make preparations for him, but the village did not welcome him because his face was set toward Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked the Lord if they should command fire to come down from heaven and consume them. But Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they went on to another village.
Lucas 9,51-56
51As the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face resolutely to go to Jerusalem,
Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ἀναλήμψεως αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς τὸ ⸀πρόσωπον ⸀ἐστήρισεν τοῦ πορεύεσθαι εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ,
52and he sent messengers on ahead. They went into a Samaritan village to make preparations for him,
καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ. καὶ πορευθέντες εἰσῆλθον εἰς κώμην Σαμαριτῶν, ⸀ὡς ἑτοιμάσαι αὐτῷ·
53but the people there would not receive him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
καὶ οὐκ ἐδέξαντο αὐτόν, ὅτι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἦν πορευόμενον εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ.
54When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to destroy them?"
ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωάννης εἶπαν· Κύριε, θέλεις εἴπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσαι ⸀αὐτούς;
55But he turned and rebuked them.
στραφεὶς δὲ ἐπετίμησεν ⸀αὐτοῖς.
56And they went on to another village.
⸀καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς ἑτέραν κώμην.
