Question about fasting
John's disciples ask Jesus why they and the Pharisees fast, but his disciples do not. Jesus answers that wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, but when he is taken away from them, they will fast. He also uses the parables of a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak and new wine in old wineskins.
Mateo 9,14-17
14Then John's disciples came to him and asked, "Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?"
Τότε προσέρχονται αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου λέγοντες· Διὰ τί ἡμεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι νηστεύομεν ⸀πολλά, οἱ δὲ μαθηταί σου οὐ νηστεύουσιν;
15Jesus answered, "Can the wedding guests mourn while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Μὴ δύνανται οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ νυμφῶνος πενθεῖν ἐφʼ ὅσον μετʼ αὐτῶν ἐστιν ὁ νυμφίος; ἐλεύσονται δὲ ἡμέραι ὅταν ἀπαρθῇ ἀπʼ αὐτῶν ὁ νυμφίος, καὶ τότε νηστεύσουσιν.
16No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch pulls away from the garment and the tear is made worse.
οὐδεὶς δὲ ἐπιβάλλει ἐπίβλημα ῥάκους ἀγνάφου ἐπὶ ἱματίῳ παλαιῷ· αἴρει γὰρ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἱματίου, καὶ χεῖρον σχίσμα γίνεται.
17Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins burst, the wine spills, and the skins are ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved."
οὐδὲ βάλλουσιν οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς παλαιούς· εἰ δὲ μή γε, ῥήγνυνται οἱ ἀσκοί, καὶ ὁ οἶνος ἐκχεῖται καὶ οἱ ἀσκοὶ ⸀ἀπόλλυνται· ἀλλὰ βάλλουσιν οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς καινούς, καὶ ἀμφότεροι συντηροῦνται.
