Ammihud belonged to the tribe of Ephraim and is primarily known in the biblical narrative as the father of Elishama, who led the tribe of Ephraim during the wilderness journey after leaving Egypt. Through Elishama, Ammihud is connected to central events such as the census, the organization of Israel's camp, and the consecration of the tabernacle altar, as recorded in Numbers. In the genealogy in 1 Chronicles, an Ammihud is also listed in the direct lineage from Ephraim down to Joshua son of Nun—one of Israel's most prominent leaders.
