Ammihud

Ephraimite ancestor and father of tribal leader Elishama

El éxodoTribal founderFather of a tribal leaderPossible ancestor of Joshuac. 1500 BC

Ammihud belonged to the tribe of Ephraim and is primarily known in the biblical narrative as the father of Elishama, who led the tribe of Ephraim during the wilderness journey after leaving Egypt. Through Elishama, Ammihud is connected to central events such as the census, the organization of Israel's camp, and the consecration of the tabernacle altar, as recorded in Numbers. In the genealogy in 1 Chronicles, an Ammihud is also listed in the direct lineage from Ephraim down to Joshua son of Nun—one of Israel's most prominent leaders. Whether this Ammihud is identical to Elishama's father is debated, but the connection nonetheless gives the name Ammihud an important place in the tribal history of Ephraim and in the broader narrative of Israel's leadership during the wilderness period.
