Mentioned among the Levites in Jerusalem

Bakbakkar is listed among the Levites who settled in Jerusalem after returning from the Babylonian exile. He is mentioned in a list along with other Levites such as Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah.

15Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph;

Rebuilding of religious life

As one of the Levites who returned to Jerusalem, Bakbakkar contributed to restoring temple service and religious life after the exile.

14From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the descendants of Merari;
15Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph;
16Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.

The Service of the Levites in the Temple

Bakbakkar was part of the group of Levites who were given responsibility for various services in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem.

17The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, and Ahiman; their kinsman Shallum was the chief.
18To this day he is stationed at the King's Gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camps of the Levites.
19Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his ancestral house, the Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, guarding the thresholds of the tent, just as their fathers had guarded the entrance to the camp of the LORD.

Settling in Jerusalem after the Exile

After the Babylonian captivity, many Israelites returned to their cities, and the Levites, including Bakbakkar, settled in Jerusalem to serve at the temple.

1So all Israel was registered by genealogy, and these are recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was carried away into exile to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2The first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
3In Jerusalem there lived some of the descendants of Judah, of Benjamin, and of Ephraim and Manasseh:
