Eliab was one of Jesse's sons and an older brother of King David. He is mentioned in the genealogies as the sixth son of Jesse. As a member of the tribe of Judah, he was part of the royal lineage that led to the Messiah.

10Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, "The LORD has not chosen these."

11So he asked Jesse, "Are these all the young men you have?" "There is still the youngest," Jesse answered. "He is out tending the sheep." Samuel said, "Send for him. We will not sit down until he comes here."
