Palti (also called Paltiel) was the son of Laish from Gallim. He was given Mikal, Saul's daughter and David's first wife, as a spouse by King Saul while David was on the run. When David later demanded Mikal back, Palti was forced to give her up and followed weeping after her to Bahurim.
When David negotiated with Ish-Bosheth to become king over all Israel, he demanded that Mikal, Saul's daughter, be brought back to him as a condition of the agreement.
13David answered, "Good. I will make a covenant with you. But I ask one thing of you: do not come into my presence unless you bring Michal daughter of Saul when you come to see me."
14Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth son of Saul with this demand: "Give me my wife Michal, whom I won for myself with a hundred Philistine foreskins."
When Ish-Bosheth sent messengers and took Mikal from Palti (Paltiel), her husband followed weeping after her all the way to Bahurim, before Abner sent him away.
