Warning against error and an exhortation to grow in grace
Peter concludes the letter by urging readers to be without blemish and blameless, counting the Lord's patience as salvation. He refers to Paul's letters which contain things that are hard to understand, which the unlearned distort to their own destruction. Readers are warned not to be carried away by the error of the lawless and are encouraged to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2. Pietarin kirje 3,14-18
14So then, dear friends, since you are waiting for this, make every effort to be found by him at peace, spotless and blameless.
Διό, ἀγαπητοί, ταῦτα προσδοκῶντες σπουδάσατε ἄσπιλοι καὶ ἀμώμητοι αὐτῷ εὑρεθῆναι ἐν εἰρήνῃ,
15And regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom given to him.
καὶ τὴν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν μακροθυμίαν σωτηρίαν ἡγεῖσθε, καθὼς καὶ ὁ ἀγαπητὸς ἡμῶν ἀδελφὸς Παῦλος κατὰ τὴν ⸂δοθεῖσαν αὐτῷ⸃ σοφίαν ἔγραψεν ὑμῖν,
16as he does also in all his letters when he speaks of these things. Some matters in them are hard to understand, and the ignorant and unstable twist them, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
ὡς καὶ ἐν πάσαις ⸀ταῖς ἐπιστολαῖς λαλῶν ἐν αὐταῖς περὶ τούτων, ἐν ⸀αἷς ἐστιν δυσνόητά τινα, ἃ οἱ ἀμαθεῖς καὶ ἀστήρικτοι ⸀στρεβλοῦσιν ὡς καὶ τὰς λοιπὰς γραφὰς πρὸς τὴν ἰδίαν αὐτῶν ἀπώλειαν.
17So you, dear friends, since you know this beforehand, be on your guard, so that you are not carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your firm footing.
ὑμεῖς οὖν, ἀγαπητοί, προγινώσκοντες φυλάσσεσθε ἵνα μὴ τῇ τῶν ἀθέσμων πλάνῃ συναπαχθέντες ἐκπέσητε τοῦ ἰδίου στηριγμοῦ,
18Instead, grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
αὐξάνετε δὲ ἐν χάριτι καὶ γνώσει τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν καὶ σωτῆρος Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ. αὐτῷ ἡ δόξα καὶ νῦν καὶ εἰς ἡμέραν αἰῶνος. ⸀ἀμήν.
