David's Generous Gift to the Temple
King David urges the entire assembly to give voluntary gifts of gold, silver, and precious stones for the building of the house of the Lord, and the people give wholeheartedly. 1 Chronicles 29:1-9
1. Aikakirja 29,1-9
1Then King David said to the whole assembly: "My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for this palace is not for man but for the LORD God.
2With all my strength I have made provision for the house of my God: gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood; also onyx stones and stones for settings, stones of antimony and of many colors, every kind of precious stone, and marble in abundance.
3Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give for the house of my God my own treasure of gold and silver, over and above all that I have provided for the holy house:
4three thousand talents of gold, gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for overlaying the walls of the buildings,
5gold for the gold work and silver for the silver, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now who will offer himself willingly, consecrating himself today to the LORD?"
6Then the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly.
7For the service of the house of God they gave five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and a hundred thousand talents of iron.
8Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, into the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9The people rejoiced at their willing response, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. King David also rejoiced greatly.
