Who is the Messiah? David's son or Lord?
While the Pharisees were gathered, Jesus asked them a question about whose son the Messiah is. They answered, "David's son." Jesus challenged them by pointing out that David, inspired by the Spirit, calls the Messiah his Lord, quoting the words that the Lord will set him at his right hand until his enemies are made a footstool for his feet. How then can the Messiah be David's son? No one could answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.

41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
Συνηγμένων δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς
42"What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" "David's," they answered.
λέγων· Τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ περὶ τοῦ χριστοῦ; τίνος υἱός ἐστιν; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Τοῦ Δαυίδ.
43He said to them, "Then how is it that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him Lord? For he says:
λέγει αὐτοῖς· Πῶς οὖν Δαυὶδ ἐν πνεύματι ⸂καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον⸃ λέγων·
44'The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.'
⸀Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ⸀ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν σου;
45If David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?"
εἰ οὖν Δαυὶδ καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον, πῶς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν;
46No one could answer him a word, and from that day on no one dared to question him any further.
καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο ⸂ἀποκριθῆναι αὐτῷ⸃ λόγον, οὐδὲ ἐτόλμησέν τις ἀπʼ ἐκείνης τῆς ἡμέρας ἐπερωτῆσαι αὐτὸν οὐκέτι.
