The Greatest and the Least Among the Disciples

The disciples discuss which of them is the greatest. Jesus, knowing what they are thinking, places a little child beside him and teaches them that whoever is least among them all is the greatest. John then tells him that they tried to stop someone who was casting out demons in Jesus' name because he was not following with them, but Jesus answers that whoever is not against them is for them.

Luukkaan evankeliumi 9,46-50

46An argument arose among them about which of them was the greatest.
47Knowing the thoughts of their hearts, Jesus took a little child and had him stand at his side.
48Then he said to them, "Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For the one who is least among you all — he is the one who is great."
49John answered, "Master, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow along with us."
50"Do not stop him," Jesus said to him, "for whoever is not against you is for you."
