The Greatest Commandment
A lawyer asks Jesus which commandment is the greatest in the Law. Jesus answers by summarizing the entire Law in two commands: to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself.
Matteuksen evankeliumi 22,34-40
34When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,
35and one of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"
Διδάσκαλε, ποία ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ νόμῳ;
37He answered, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
38This is the great and first commandment.
39And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
40On these two commandments hang the whole law and the prophets."
