The Judgment Against the Nations
The Lord announces judgment against Hadrak, Damascus, Hamath, Tyre, and Sidon, as well as the Philistine cities of Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and Ashdod, before promising to camp like a guard post near his own house.
Sakarja 9,1-8
1An oracle: The word of the LORD against the land of Hadrach, with Damascus as its resting place — for the LORD has his eye on humankind as on all the tribes of Israel —
מַשָּׂ֤א דְבַר־יְהוָה֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ חַדְרָ֔ךְ וְדַמֶּ֖שֶׂק מְנֻחָת֑וֹ כִּ֤י לַֽיהוָה֙ עֵ֣ין אָדָ֔ם וְכֹ֖ל שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
2and against Hamath as well, which borders it, and against Tyre and Sidon, however wise they may be.
וְגַם־חֲמָ֖ת תִּגְבָּל־בָּ֑הּ צֹ֣ר וְצִיד֔וֹן כִּ֥י חָֽכְמָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃
3Tyre has built herself a stronghold; she has heaped up silver like dust and gold like the mud of the streets.
וַתִּ֥בֶן צֹ֛ר מָצ֖וֹר לָ֑הּ וַתִּצְבָּר־כֶּ֙סֶף֙ כֶּֽעָפָ֔ר וְחָר֖וּץ כְּטִ֥יט חוּצֽוֹת׃
4But look, the Lord will dispossess her; he will hurl her wealth into the sea, and she herself will be devoured by fire.
הִנֵּ֤ה אֲדֹנָי֙ יֽוֹרִשֶׁ֔נָּה וְהִכָּ֥ה בַיָּ֖ם חֵילָ֑הּ וְהִ֖יא בָּאֵ֥שׁ תֵּאָכֵֽל׃
5Ashkelon will see it and be afraid; Gaza will writhe in anguish, and Ekron too, for her hope has withered away. The king will perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon will be left without inhabitants.
תֵּרֶ֨א אַשְׁקְל֜וֹן וְתִירָ֗א וְעַזָּה֙ וְתָחִ֣יל מְאֹ֔ד וְעֶקְר֖וֹן כִּֽי־הֹבִ֣ישׁ מֶבָּטָ֑הּ וְאָ֤בַד מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ מֵֽעַזָּ֔ה וְאַשְׁקְל֖וֹן לֹ֥א תֵשֵֽׁב׃
6A people of mixed blood will settle in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
וְיָשַׁ֥ב מַמְזֵ֖ר בְּאַשְׁדּ֑וֹד וְהִכְרַתִּ֖י גְּא֥וֹן פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃
7I will take the blood out of their mouths and the detestable meat from between their teeth. Then they too will be a remnant for our God; they will be like a clan in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.
וַהֲסִרֹתִ֨י דָמָ֜יו מִפִּ֗יו וְשִׁקֻּצָיו֙ מִבֵּ֣ין שִׁנָּ֔יו וְנִשְׁאַ֥ר גַּם־ה֖וּא לֵֽאלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וְהָיָה֙ כְּאַלֻּ֣ף בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה וְעֶקְר֖וֹן כִּיבוּסִֽי׃
8I will encamp around my house as a guard, so that no one passes through or returns against it; no oppressor will overrun them again, for now I have seen it with my own eyes.
וְחָנִ֨יתִי לְבֵיתִ֤י מִצָּבָה֙ מֵעֹבֵ֣ר וּמִשָּׁ֔ב וְלֹֽא־יַעֲבֹ֧ר עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם ע֖וֹד נֹגֵ֑שׂ כִּ֥י עַתָּ֖ה רָאִ֥יתִי בְעֵינָֽי׃ ס
