Ezekiel's Symbolic Act: The Sign of Exile

The Lord commands the prophet Ezekiel to perform a dramatic symbolic act: he is to pack his belongings like an exile, break through the wall, and carry it out into the darkness with his face covered. This action serves as a sign for the house of Israel, especially targeting the prince in Jerusalem, who will be caught in the Lord's net, taken to Babylon without seeing the land, and die there. The people and their helpers will be scattered among the nations, but a small remnant will be spared to recount their abominations, so that they may know that He is the Lord Ezekiel 12:1-16.

Hesekiel 12,1-16

1The word of the LORD came to me:
2Son of man, you are living among a rebellious house. They have eyes to see but do not see, ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house.
3So you, son of man, pack a bundle for exile and set out in broad daylight, before their eyes. Go into exile from where you are to another place while they watch. Perhaps they will see, though they are a rebellious house.
4Bring out your belongings like an exile's pack in the daylight, before their eyes, and then go out in the evening, before their eyes, like those who go into exile.
5While they watch, dig through the wall and carry your things out through it.
6Before their eyes, lift the pack to your shoulder and carry it out in the dark. Cover your face so you cannot see the land, for I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.
7I did just as I was commanded. I brought out my belongings like an exile's pack in the daylight, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my hands. In the dark I carried my things out on my shoulder, before their eyes.
8In the morning the word of the LORD came to me:
9Son of man, has not the house of Israel, that rebellious house, asked you, "What are you doing?"
10Say to them: This is what the Lord GOD says: This oracle concerns the prince in Jerusalem and the whole house of Israel who are there with him.
11Say: I am a sign to you. As I have done, so it will be done to them; they will go into exile, into captivity.
12The prince who is among them will lift his pack to his shoulder in the dark and go out. They will dig through the wall to bring him out through it. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his own eyes.
13I will spread my net over him, and he will be caught in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, yet he will not see it, and there he will die.
14All those around him, his helpers and all his troops, I will scatter to every wind, and I will draw the sword after them.
15Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them through the lands.
16But I will spare a few of them from the sword, the famine, and the plague, so that among the nations where they go they may recount all their detestable practices. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
