Mooses

The People Fear God's Voice at Sinai

The whole people saw the thunder and the lightning, heard the sound of the trumpet, and saw the mountain covered in smoke. They trembled and kept their distance, asking Moses to speak to them instead of God, for they feared they would die. Moses reassured them that God had come to test them, so that fear of Him would keep them from sinning. While the people stood at a distance, Moses entered the darkness where God was.

2. Mooseksen kirja 20,18-21

18All the people witnessed the thunder and the flashes of lightning, the blast of the trumpet, and the mountain wrapped in smoke. And when the people saw it, they trembled and stood far off.
19They said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not let God speak to us, or we will die."

20Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of him will be with you and keep you from sinning."

21The people remained at a distance while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
