The people hear, but do not act
The Lord says to Ezekiel that the people speak about him at the walls and in the doorways, encouraging one another to come and hear the word from the Lord. They sit before him as his people and listen to his words, but do not act on them—with their mouths they show love, but their hearts follow their own gain. To them Ezekiel is like a beautiful love song. But when the word comes true, they will recognize that a prophet has been among them Ezekiel 33:30-33.
Hesekiel 33,30-33
30As for you, son of man, your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doorways of their houses, saying to one another, each to his brother, "Come and hear what word has come from the LORD."
וְאַתָּ֣ה בֶן־אָדָ֔ם בְּנֵ֣י עַמְּךָ֗ הַנִּדְבָּרִ֤ים בְּךָ֙ אֵ֣צֶל הַקִּיר֔וֹת וּבְפִתְחֵ֖י הַבָּתִּ֑ים וְדִבֶּר־חַ֣ד אֶת־אַחַ֗ד אִ֤ישׁ אֶת־אָחִיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בֹּֽאוּ־נָ֣א וְשִׁמְע֔וּ מָ֣ה הַדָּבָ֔ר הַיּוֹצֵ֖א מֵאֵ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃
31They come to you as people do, and they sit before you as my people and listen to your words—but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts chase after unjust gain.
וְיָב֣וֹאוּ אֵ֠לֶיךָ כִּמְבוֹא־עָ֞ם וְיֵשְׁב֤וּ לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ עַמִּ֔י וְשָֽׁמְעוּ֙ אֶת־דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ וְאוֹתָ֖ם לֹ֣א יַֽעֲשׂ֑וּ כִּֽי־עֲגָבִ֤ים בְּפִיהֶם֙ הֵ֣מָּה עֹשִׂ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֥י בִצְעָ֖ם לִבָּ֥ם הֹלֵֽךְ׃
32To them you are nothing more than a singer of love songs with a beautiful voice who plays well on an instrument. They hear your words, but they do not act on them.
וְהִנְּךָ֤ לָהֶם֙ כְּשִׁ֣יר עֲגָבִ֔ים יְפֵ֥ה ק֖וֹל וּמֵטִ֣ב נַגֵּ֑ן וְשָֽׁמְעוּ֙ אֶת־דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ וְעֹשִׂ֥ים אֵינָ֖ם אוֹתָֽם׃
33When it comes—and come it will—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.
וּבְבֹאָ֑הּ הִנֵּ֣ה בָאָ֔ה וְיָ֣דְע֔וּ כִּ֥י נָבִ֖יא הָיָ֥ה בְתוֹכָֽם׃ ס
